Hello and welcome to the August 2026 Laughing Duck Farm newsletter! Thank you for taking a moment to hear about what is going on!
July was such a busy month! There is so much to do on the farm in July, and there are also a lot of family celebrations. All of the animals are in full swing, we have many appointments for chicken butchering, we are putting hay up in the barn, Troy and I celebrated our 29th wedding anniversery, AND a new grandson was born! As expected I gave up on the garden and the weeds are quite happy. To be honest, I’m actually excited that it’s almost August so things can quiet down, at least a little!
Party!
Our customer appreciation party is August 1st from 4pm-8pm. I really hope you can join us. There will be games, prizes, dump truck hay rides, farm tours, store specials, and Black Ridge Katahdins will be serving our gyros from their gyro food truck. They also have mac and cheese for the kids. It is always such a good time and free. What more could you want?!
On the Farm
All of the animals are out on pasture right now. There are cows, pigs, goats, and chickens. I also just receintly received a small flock of ducklings, which I am so excited about. I love to listen to them talk to…and laugh at each other. I am getting all of my steps in setting up our portible electric fence and taking it back down again. The days are ordinary and extrodinary at the same time. Every time I walk through a field of purple flowers to go move a fence I give thanks that I can live out my dream.
In the Store
Our store is stocked with chicken, pork and goat right now. You will also find lots of baking supplies, canning supplies, and other dried goods. You will find soaps, pottery, kitchen hand tools, and even laundry detergent! We are open Thursday through Saturday from 10am-6pm. I’d love for you to visit!
Bulk Food Orders
August is the time when we start thinking about going back to school. It is also a good time to start thinking about stocking up for winter. Although cold, snowy days seem like they are so far away, they will be here before you know it and it will be so nice to not have to drive anywhere! I would highly encourage you to take a look at the things you’re constantly buying at the store, and seeing if you can buy them in bulk for a lot less. You will find things like fruit snacks and crachers for the kids’ lunches, easy frozen breakfast ideas, lots of organic or gluten free items, and my favorite thing… ingredients! Having a little stock pile of the basics (flour, sugar, oatmeal, etc…) can really come in handy.
This month’s bulk food order will be available on Friday, August 7th at 4:30pm. Orders are due on Saturday, August 1st by 7pm. Ordering is easy! Simply look through the list below for items your family uses. I’ve tried to alphabetize it by item type. Email your order to northhaus@gmail.com. Please not that you can NOT just reply to this email. I will never get it. Make sure you include the item type, the item number, and the price. This will insure I don’t order the wrong thing. I will email you back by Saturday August 1st at 10pm… hopefully. I may need a little grace this month as August 1st is the day of our customer appreciation party. But you will absolutely hear back from me by mid day Sunday the 2nd.
Then, on Friday, August 7th, come to the store after 4:30 pm. You can pick up your items then and you can pay by cash or check. The store will also be open for shopping at this time. Then you take your order home and if you’re like me, you get to have grocery Christmas because you forgot what you ordered! It’s very exciting.
That’s all for today. I hope you have lots of wonderful things to look forward to this month. I also hope that I get to see you soon, at the store, at the party, or at a bulk food pick up. Better yet, all three!
Blessings to you and your family,
Kathy
