Hello and welcome to the July 2026 edition of the Laughing Duck Farm newsletter. I hope this finds you well and that you are truely enjoying this summer. I know I am. Maybe a little too much.

It’s not that I’m having a wild time over here on the farm doing questionable things. Instead it is more about priorities and the fact that there are only so many beautiful summer days in a year.

I am the kind of person who wants to do everything. I want to enjoy all of the seconds of beautiful weather. I want to plant all of the flowers. I want to raise all of the animals. I want to go to all of the festivals and eat from all of the food trucks and grow all of the vegetables. I want to have family beach days and picnics and take my grandsons to the park.

I can and will do it all. My sleep might suffer a little, my house will definitely not be as clean as in the winter, and I absolutely won’t be watching any television in the evenings, because I plan to enjoy this summer to it’s fullest extent. Summer is here in Wisconsin, and I don’t want to miss it!

On the Farm

The farm is now in full swing and things have fallen into a rhythm. The mornings are early and last night I was still outside fixing fencing in the dark, but it is wonderful. Everyone is out on pasture. If you drive by you will see the goats and the chickens from the road. The pigs and cows are a little more under cover. The garden is actually looking like a garden right now. I am trying to use a combination of tarping and mulching to get rid of all of the pigweed that has plagued me for so long. We’ll see how it goes. Everything is green and lush and happy, and you know what we say about happy animals. Happy animals make tasty meat!

In the Store

The store is fully loaded with so many things! We have preserving supplies from canning lids to fruit pectin to pickling spices. We also have tasty meats for your grill and pasta to make those pasta salads. You can find me in the store on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10am until 6pm. The address is 2482 170th Ave, Emerald, WI 54013. You can also find us at farmer’s markets. The first Wednesday of the month we are at the Glenwood City farmers market from 4pm-7pm. We do not bring meat to this market because it is sponsored by Ross’ meat locker and that would be rude. On Sundays you can find me at the Market at the 45th in New Richmond. That market runs from 10-2. We do bring meat to that market. You can find it in our new glass topped freezer, which is very exciting for me. Please note that I could not possibly bring everything in the store to the farmer’s markets, so if there is something you need me to bring, just message me a day ahead of time to make sure I have it.

Party!

This is your official reminder/invitation letting you know that our Customer Appreciation Party will be August 1st from 4pm-8pm. There will be farm tours. There will be free gyros. There will be prizes!

This is always such a fun time and a great family outing. You can choose to make it as relaxing or as exciting as you would like it to be (choose to touch the electric fence, I promise you that will be exciting!). We’d love to have a crowd and hope you will choose to be a part of it!

Bulk Food Order

This month’s bulk food order will be delivered on Friday, July 10 and available for pick up after 4:30 pm. Your order is due on Saturday July 4th by 7pm. Your next opportunity to order will be for an Augest 7th delivery with orders due on August 1st.

If you have never placed an order with us, don’t worry. It’s not that hard.

Step one: browse the attached list and look for items you and your family use a lot of. You’ll be surprised how many you will find. I have done my best to alphabetize everything, but sometimes things are classified weirdly. Please do NOT print this list out. It is very long and changes every month.

Step two: send me an email to northhaus@gmail.com with your list by 7pm on Saturday, July 4. Include the item number, a short description, and the price. Those three things help me to avoid ordering the wrong thing and also makes ordering go very quickly for me. If you are ordering frozen things and want to be texted the minute your order is ready, please include your phone number with instructions to text you. I have a little freezer space, but not a ton and I know some of you can get here fairly quickly. If you have not received a confirmation from me by Sunday, July 5 please reach out! I try to be very careful but sometimes things get sent to spam or missed.

Step three: Come out to the farm on July 10 after 4:30pm to pay and pick up your items. Our address is 2482 170th ave, Emerald, WI. It is an especially nice drive from the twin cities this time of year. You can pay with cash or check and shop, walk around the farm, or even bring a picnic if you’d like. If you need to come later than 8pm please let me know so that I don’t worry about you.

Well, I guess that’s it for this month! I hope you are doing all of the fun things for summer that fill your heart with joy. I also hope to see you at some point and catch up!

Peace to you and your family,

Kathy
