Hello, and welcome to the first blog style newsletter from Laughing Duck Farm! It is late May here on the farm and we are in “full go” mode. It is a race every day to get things done. Everyone is finally here on the farm (the pigs arrived last week) and the animals are moving through their pastures. This is by far my favorite time of year. It is a time of potential, and if there is one thing that gets me excited it is potential. I see the bare ground in the garden and envision a beautiful patch of vegetables and flowers for my family. I look at the lush green pastures and envision it filled with animals, happy and frolicking in the sunshine. I see the turkey chicks and envision a grand Thanksgiving dinner. Actually, the turkeys would rather I not talk about their potential, so lets move on.
My husband also is a visionary, and right now he is looking at the store and picturing it much bigger. The plan for this summer is to expand our Milkhaus Mercantile. We will still have all of the meats that we raise on our farm. We will also still have the dried goods, just more of them. I would like to carry a much wider variety of flours and organic grains. I would also like to carry more jams and pickled items. My children, of course, would like me to carry more candies and chocolates. That one is still being discussed.
There are a few new things that are already available. We now carry dark chocolate espresso beans, for that mid afternoon energy lift, organic brown rice flour, with organic white rice flour soon to come and now is also the time to order your whole or half hog. If you are interested in filling your freezer with happy healthy pork, please contact me soon, as availability doesn’t last long. The cost is $300 for a half hog and $600 for a whole. You pay your own processing. We have two butchers available at this time. One in Glenwood City WI and the other in Elmwood WI. Please note that your hog is not reserved until I receive your payment.
As these expansions happen, we will still be offering our bulk food pick up once a month. This month orders are due by June 7th at 7pm and you can pick up your items on June 13th after 4pm. Our store will be open at this time so you can purchase our lovely meats. You can see the price list for the meats by clicking here. You can also purchase smaller quantities of dried goods. That list is available by clicking here. Please note that you do not have to order these items ahead of time. You just go into the store and select your items, and pay when you pay for your bulk food order.
As always, you can pick up these orders and shop for meat and dried goods at 2482 170th Ave Emerald WI.
To Place a Bulk Order:
First, browse through the attached list below, thinking about things you use a lot. If you are looking for something specific and having a hard time seeing it on the list, you can go to walnutcreek.com and use their search engine. This will not show you any prices, but will give you a good idea of what is available.
Next, make me a list of what you want to order. This list should include the item number, a brief description, and the price you expect to pay. The price list can be a little hard to read, so including all of this information helps me to make sure you are receiving the item you think you are getting. Email this list to me at northause@gmail.com .
Finally, pick up your item here at Laughing Duck Farm on Thursday, June 13th any time after 4pm. You can pay for these items with cash or a check. If you live very far west of us and don’t want to drive too far, there is a Stillwater pick up available. Just let me know and I can put you in contact with that person.
If you would like to continue receiving these newsletters, please click the follow button. It will give you the option to put in your email address. This way you will continue to receive these newsletters right in your email inbox, and gmail can stop punishing me for sending out too many emails!
I hope your June is fantastic and all of its potential is realized in your life. I’m looking forward to seeing your here on the farm soon!
