Hello, and welcome to the first blog style newsletter from Laughing Duck Farm! It is late May here on the farm and we are in “full go” mode. It is a race every day to get things done. Everyone is finally here on the farm (the pigs arrived last week) and the animals are moving through their pastures. This is by far my favorite time of year. It is a time of potential, and if there is one thing that gets me excited it is potential. I see the bare ground in the garden and envision a beautiful patch of vegetables and flowers for my family. I look at the lush green pastures and envision it filled with animals, happy and frolicking in the sunshine. I see the turkey chicks and envision a grand Thanksgiving dinner. Actually, the turkeys would rather I not talk about their potential, so lets move on.

My husband also is a visionary, and right now he is looking at the store and picturing it much bigger. The plan for this summer is to expand our Milkhaus Mercantile. We will still have all of the meats that we raise on our farm. We will also still have the dried goods, just more of them. I would like to carry a much wider variety of flours and organic grains. I would also like to carry more jams and pickled items. My children, of course, would like me to carry more candies and chocolates. That one is still being discussed.

There are a few new things that are already available. We now carry dark chocolate espresso beans, for that mid afternoon energy lift, organic brown rice flour, with organic white rice flour soon to come and now is also the time to order your whole or half hog. If you are interested in filling your freezer with happy healthy pork, please contact me soon, as availability doesn’t last long. The cost is $300 for a half hog and $600 for a whole. You pay your own processing. We have two butchers available at this time. One in Glenwood City WI and the other in Elmwood WI. Please note that your hog is not reserved until I receive your payment.

As these expansions happen, we will still be offering our bulk food pick up once a month. This month orders are due by June 7th at 7pm and you can pick up your items on June 13th after 4pm. Our store will be open at this time so you can purchase our lovely meats. You can see the price list for the meats by clicking here. You can also purchase smaller quantities of dried goods. That list is available by clicking here. Please note that you do not have to order these items ahead of time. You just go into the store and select your items, and pay when you pay for your bulk food order.

As always, you can pick up these orders and shop for meat and dried goods at 2482 170th Ave Emerald WI.

To Place a Bulk Order:

First, browse through the attached list below, thinking about things you use a lot. If you are looking for something specific and having a hard time seeing it on the list, you can go to walnutcreek.com and use their search engine. This will not show you any prices, but will give you a good idea of what is available.

Next, make me a list of what you want to order. This list should include the item number, a brief description, and the price you expect to pay. The price list can be a little hard to read, so including all of this information helps me to make sure you are receiving the item you think you are getting. Email this list to me at northause@gmail.com .

Finally, pick up your item here at Laughing Duck Farm on Thursday, June 13th any time after 4pm. You can pay for these items with cash or a check. If you live very far west of us and don’t want to drive too far, there is a Stillwater pick up available. Just let me know and I can put you in contact with that person.

If you would like to continue receiving these newsletters, please click the follow button. It will give you the option to put in your email address. This way you will continue to receive these newsletters right in your email inbox, and gmail can stop punishing me for sending out too many emails!

I hope your June is fantastic and all of its potential is realized in your life. I’m looking forward to seeing your here on the farm soon!

Kathy has allowed us to post here about an upcoming event that we think you would be interested in.

HOMESTEAD FESTIVAL benefiting Settled. at FAIR HAVEN FARM

Summer is upon us, and what better way to spend a summer’s day than at a good old-fashioned festival? Even better, what about a homestead festival? Come one, come all to the Homestead Festival at Fair Haven Farm!

This family-friendly event on July 2, from 2-9 PM, supports Settled, a ministry working with the chronically unhomed. You will have the opportunity to learn about Settled’s unique way of partnering with churches and the chronically unhomed through intentional and permanent tiny home communities called Sacred Settlements. A tiny home will be available to tour!

With a special concert from internationally acclaimed group Fiddlers Restrung an Artisan Market, old-fashioned games, tours of Fair Haven Farm’s homestead and animals, a Dad Joke competition, family portraits, crafts, water-balloon toss, bonfire and sing-along, and so much more, the Homestead Festival is perfect for the whole family.

FAIR HAVEN FARM is a homestead nestled in verdant Stillwater Township, Minnesota. It is home to Scottish Highland Cattle, thoroughbred and Tennessee Walker horses, Alpine goats, Embden geese, heritage chickens, Great Pyrenees guard dogs, Mangalista pigs, Border Leicester sheep, Guinea hens, farm cats, and six humans who love the ups and downs of farm life. When you register, make sure to sign up for a homestead tour to meet the animals and learn about our sustainable farming methods and a family portrait session. We welcome you to Come and See and we invite you to Give-As-You’re-Led. Enter your donation in the “ADDITIONAL DONATION” box at the end of the registration process. We are delighted to gather like-hearted people to enjoy a summer’s day filled with incredible people, great food, folk music, farm tours, and homesteading goods and activities, all within an idyllic setting, and all for the benefit of caring for our homeless neighbors well. IMPORTANT: We are now accepting applications for our ARTISAN MARKET and donations for a SILENT AUCTION. Details below.

A NOTE: The Isaac Family is hosting this festival in hopes that the knowledge of such a powerful ministry will equip people to reach out to this under-served people group who are often pushed to the fringes of society with no meaningful place of belonging. We are humbled to partner with Settled.  As you are led, there will be information available about how to thoughtfully support the work of Settled. All proceeds of the Homestead Festival, including tickets, auction, artisan market fees, etc. will directly benefit Settled and their Sacred Settlements ministry, building tiny homes and pairing the chronically unhomed with churches.

    APPLY FOR THE ARTISAN MARKET:

We are looking for vendors selling “handmade wholesome goods that enrich life and home” to be sold at the ARTISAN MARKET. $50 fee per table (fee goes directly to Settled).  Vendors may apply through this Google form.

DONATE AN ITEM FOR THE SILENT AUCTION:

We are seeking Families, Groups, Churches, Businesses, and Artisans to participate in the Auction at our Homestead Festival on July 2nd, 2024. We suggest donating a service, experience, product, or grouping of products worth $25-$250 or more. You are free to provide advertising materials to promote your business and products that will be displayed alongside your donation.

For donations contact: Bethany Isaac bethanysmusic10@gmail.com

Please arrange with Bethany to drop off donations at Fair Haven Farm

11399 Norell Ave N, Stillwater Township, MN 55082 by June 29th.

We are so grateful for the opportunity to host this Homestead Festival and cannot wait to make unforgettable memories with you!
